Cask Car

Well as if I needed another rabbit hole to run down while chasing rabid squirrels. So this past weekend we had our semi annual train swap and our club hosts a couple tables. One passerby suggested that the size of G scale and the fact it ran outdoors lent itself well to a beer hauling car. One that would hold a can or two and deliver it to people. Calling it a beer stop instead of a flag stop. This led to the imaginengineering of a miniature pressurized keg car. hauling one of those minikegs like the one Heiniken comes in.

Well as we are discussing this another guy suggested that we build a cask car. I thought he was full of dung but he insisted there was such a thing. A google search reveals there is such a thing.

Well this got me to thinking. I don’t partake in vino that much. The beer I drink doesn’t come in mini kegs. But!!! I do like a particular liquid made from corn, barley, oats and is stored in charred oak barrels. (And none of that cheap stuff from Alabama either). So i came across this particular Youtube video

And I am thinking I have the makings of a great bourbon car.

Found an even better video where he atcually works out the match

Wish I currently had time to play in this thread !!

Devon;

I cannot find a photo of my little car, but LGB made a two-axle version of a cask car. The cask is plastic, but has a filling hatch and a spigot. Not as elegant as oak, but it would allow you to have something rolling while the other cask car was being built.

Just a thought, David Meashey

Devon, we keep telling you that there is a prototype for anything. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

I’ll learn that one day. I sure am proved wrong more than right when I think there is no such thing as a particular car or loco configuration.

You remember that LGB white Budweiser reefer they made years ago? In one of my books, there is a photograph of that exact car sitting on a siding. I can’t remember which book, or I’d scan

it for you.

OK…maybe a few seconds

Dave , is this the car you were talking about ?

You will need a working sink for hand washing

A few years back a bought half dozen of these for $5 each as they had a mountain of them at Target after xmas. I use them for aging tequila. They are available at Amazon and would make a fine start for such a car. https://www.amazon.com/REFINERY-Miniature-Whiskey-Dispenser-Entertaining/dp/B07C9BW4HD

also cheaper on eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/REFINERY-AND-CO-Whiskey-Barrel-Drink-Dispenser-800ML-27-FL-OZ-SHIPS-RIGHT-NOW/274289935796

That’s tempting Dan but as a wood worker and a scratch builder I think it would be a sin not to make my own. lol
