Large Scale Central

A Building Front Project...

So a friend of mine has a building front for his outdoor railroad made of rigid insulation and mortar carved into stone. So I painted it up for him to look more like the original than the grey mortar.

First I strengthened the corners using Titelock Super Grab, which this stuff is the best ever, then I further strengthened the joints using my go-to method of bamboo skewers driven in at angle. Then I painted the whole thing up, painted the windows, replaced the roof with some strips of green flat roofing, and there you go. I wish I could find a picture of the original mill in place but I can’t find it. Once my buddy gets the rest of the doors and windows in, I’ll paint them up and show some pictures of the whole deal in place.

Thaks for looking!

Looks great! Nice techniques…

That’s a fine looking job, John. I need a buddy that will paint buildings for me (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif). Thanks for sharing.

Ha! We trade a lot. He does electronics for me and I paint for him!

Would be interesting to ask the inventors of this Styrofoam insulation board if during their process of creating it they ever had thoughts about what other things people might dream up to use it for.

More uses, more sales…I’ll bet they are happy, either way.

Excellent! But I (personally) think it’s screaming for a standing seam roof (WITH snow/ice guards) .

Just saying

There’s no snow in Ireland! There’s no crying in baseball and there’s no snow in Ireland!

Oh wait. I forgot. This tannery is in Pennsylvania (the best place to buy school supplies). I think it does snow in Pennsylvania.

Ya think?!

That is a great looking building. Your paint job made it come alive. I agree it needs a better roof. Slate would be the way to go.

It does snow in Ireland on occasion, I have seen it but they don’t get much maybe an inch or 2 which paralyzes the county it falls in because they do not have the tools to deal with it and their cars don’t have all season tires.

Great building.

Excellent job John. It will look great in that little slice of Pensylvania hiding just East of Denver (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
