Large Scale Central

2x8 Ideas?

I have a 2x8 shelf that I’d like to make into a layout. I know that sounds crazy to do in G, but I don’t want to have a display shelf.

Anyone have any ideas of what I could do on the shelf?

I realize the equipment would have to be very small. If anyone has done something similar, I’d love to hear about it.

Get a critter control from Del and let a trolley run back and forth with timed stops.

look at Shelf layouts, might help with some ideas

Lots ideas here

What about a switching puzzle. A timesaver might fit but the 2’ might be a bit narrow. There are others. http://www.wymann.info/ShuntingPuzzles/

This is exactly 2 x 8, and you can add more track, and vary it from the John Allen TimeSaver configuration

Add a splash of scenery and you have an interesting “layout” that can double as display and be practical.

Not crazy at all from my perspective but then again I am quite happy with my 1’ X 13’ trolley layout with a single switch at each end and single track in between. I have it automated so the three trolleys take turns entering the empty track left from the previous departure.

I now have a track plan!!! A gentleman in a facebook group I’m in graciously designed me a layout plan. Here it is:

(The plan is in 1:22, the scale of the LGB track I plan to use, though I plan to model in 1:29)

And a 3D model:

Looks like there is potential for some cool model building and detailing there.

I like it. Am noticing how the track switches are placed for the smoothest flow.

And I like that too.
