      Tomar Industries Order Times?

I ordered some Hayes wheel stops back in Jan. from Tomar Industries for my staging yard. A few weeks go by, and I don't hear from them, so I send them a email asking for a status update. 24 hours later, I get a reply that says "We are out of stock, we need to make more. Will be about 2 weeks".

So I wait my 2 weeks, and no email or status update about my order. So I email them again. Same message. "We are out of stock, we need to make more. Will be about 2 weeks. We are super sorry."

So, I politely wait another 2 weeks. No status or shipping update. By now we are a month after my original order. I send one more email. "We are out of stock, we need to make more."

Is this typical for Tomar Industries? I know that NWSL has a long delay between ordering and delivery, but they seem to get products out in under a couple of weeks (or email you to let you know the status).

      Anyone else had good/bad experience?

It doesn't sound like they want your business. Have they already charged you?

To be honest, I haven't looked at the bank statement to see if they charged me or not. I called them to ask about the order status, and am waiting to hear back. The gal that answered repeated that they are behind in producing products. So it might just be one of those times.

Edit: Got a phone call back, and will update me next week. They couldn't find a record of my email or invoice, but yet I have a copy in my email. Humm....

Talk to Gilbert at GLX, he has 3D printed wheel stops in HO and 1:48 scale. Maybe he could run you off a set in Large Scale.

Probably just a one man operation. No excuse for poor communication but he may be busy with life and that would explain a protracted time in producing new stock.

Tomar is now owned by the Prantles, (Who own a train shop called PF&S). In the middle of nowhere, down a dirt road just north of the Tri Cities, Wa.

The store is inside  two or three box cars. Interesting place to visit, but little to no "g" scale.

I tried ordering something from them about 10 years ago. Took 2 years to get it.

Craig, I'd cancel the order and try to find some other replacements.

Bottom line, many vendors ship when the feel like it, have poor communication skills, fail to provide tracking info, charge you card immediately regardless of when they ship, etc., and the list goes on. this is a sad state of affairs today, top this off with the fact that you will spend a minimum of $8-10 for shipping the smallest parts. I buy a lot of stuff I need to support this hobby of mine of eBay, buy it now whenever I can, and also wonder how some of these folks can ship for free, for the price charged. and I stay with US based vendors. who knows when it will show up from Hong Kong.

there are a few good ones out there, my most recent with RLD hobbies, I placed a web order on a Saturday or Sunday, had notification bright and early Monday morning that my parcel had shipped, and had it Wednesday morning. other vendors can learn from him.

Bottom line, and many vendors used to have a checkbox for automatically canceling any item not in stock, not so many anymore, specifically request this when placing an order, either via the web or mail, or phone. that there be no backorders. inventory systems be challenged, not every ones works so good.

you may wish to have them 3d printed and made out of white metal. I have sources if you need them.

      John,

I saw the Pasco address on the website. I'm going to give them the week to call back and see what the status is and then make a decision. If I had know how much trouble this would be I would have ordered all the wheel stops I will eventually need verses just a few.

Email notification today that my order was produced, and will be mailed later today. Still not sure if this is "normal" or not.

"Normal," is just a setting on the dryer, Craig.

      This answers the "normal" question....

"For future orders please note that we are backed up in production from June of last year. We normally produce on a first come, first serve basis. We apologize for this inconvenience and your patience is very much appreciated."

Backed up since June of LAST year! Sounds like someone needs some industrial strength Ex-lax.

I got my 4 sets of wheel stops today, but I don't think I will order them again. Flash is expected on any casting, but when the flash is so much that it fills the hollow of the parts, that's a bit excessive.

      Craig,

I have ordered the wheel stops and marker lights in the past from Tomar several times with no problems. But that was not with the new owners.  I hope it works out. The brass marker lights are/were real nice.

That's the good side. The other side, you can barely make out the bolt detail.

      Craig,

That's a terrible casting.  Here is one of my spares. It is typical of all the ones I have.  Just takes a little cleanup and its ready for paint.

I haven't opened the other 3 yet, but I'm guessing they are similar. At this point in time, I feel like I should have just drawn one up in CAD and had it 3D printed.

Wow , that looks like something that should have never left the shop floor, should have been tossed right into the melting pot!
