Satisfying intersection between RR hobby and work...

For the past few months I’ve been carrying a railroad artist in my gallery and sold quite a few of his works. The trick with selling photography, at least here, is that I frame them as if they were paintings, don’t use 1970’s mattes!, and NO glass (it doesn’t matter; nobody smokes indoors anymore anyway). And of course the work has to be compelling and priced right.

Anyway, I thought the fellas here might get a kick out seeing our hobby brought into the workplace.

Yes those do look better than the old Aaron Bros metal frames.

Wonderful. No matte? I like it. It seems like heresy, but i like it.

So, John, is photography at that level considered art, or a craft?

Edit: to correct Bill Gates spelling of matte.

Dang those are some cool pictures , the 2 rail yard pics are very cool looking

Good question. My interest is in sales, so I present the work as art and price it accordingly and let the customer consider.

All I know is since the advent of digital cameras with the little screen on the back of the camera, and photoshop, even I can produce a competent photograph. This particular photographer goes well byond what I could do though.

Have to agree, some cool pictures… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Whoa, that’s an impressive display of knowledge. You’re a good man, Russell. You know things.

I can spot the difference between an FA and a PA.

edit: and I know the steam engine wheel numbering system!

Ship it to me then. I may or may not get it to him…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Very cool John. Great choices and work on the framing.

Mee too. And when I am working in my workroom, the ashtray seams to always be full, no matter how often I empty it.

Follow me boys … I started at 16 … on my second cancer now.

Please reconsider.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

I quit in 2010, after ~30 years… someone gimme some guilt-free secondhand…

So far, no C-word.

But like John says…

I started around 10 years old, inhaling by 12. Both my parents were smokers. I have been quit now since about 1992, just after my second was born. That adds up to inhaling for just under 30 years and quit for 26 years. I don’t miss it and can smell someone smoking in a car three cars ahead of me on the interstate (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)I must have quit a dozen times before it took. A near death experience with Pneumonia did it for me. That was my second bout with Pneumonia - the first time I forced myself to smoke through it.

You can’t convince anyone to quit. It’s an addiction and they need to come to terms with it and make their own decisions. As bad as it is for you there are exceptions like my 75 year old neighbor who smokes 2 packs a day and is healthy as a horse.

Great pics, and I really like that Shay print! It can be put in a box and sent my way if you like, looks like you need an empty spot on that wall (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Cool. They do look good framed that way.
