Flickr now limiting free accounts to 1000 images.

Went to my page there and got notice that Flickr is now limiting free accounts to 1000 images.
So went looking for more info.

      I'm not on twitter but will quote their account there;

      https://www.flickr.com/lookingahead/?utm_campaign=flickr-lookingahead&utm_source=Twitter

Free accounts will soon be limited to 1,000 photos or videos. Flickr isn’t Flickr without the contributions and participation of our free members, and we remain committed to a vibrant free offering.

If you are a free member with more than 1,000 photos or videos, you will have ample time to upgrade to Pro (for 30% off your first year) or download your photos and videos.* Read more about this decision.

I just sent this on their feedback page:

"Okay, I see the message about the new thousand image limit for free accounts and then my thoughts connect that with living below the poverty level on Social Security Disability. Am looking at the Flickr Pro fee of $49.99 per year which doesn't sound like much until connecting with that I get $1001 a month SSD, which sounds pretty reasonable until one looks at the Federal Poverty level guidelines and sees the the poverty level income for a household of one is $12,140 a year and I get $12,012 a year.
Yes, there is a discount on Pro right now, for right now.
But what about the long term?
Is there some manner by which we might meet halfway?
(Hmm, it said error submitting message please try again, so here goes again. I would not be surprised if all the ad blockers, script blockers, and GIF blockers, I use to make the web usable for me what with having autism and several other things had something to do with that error. God I hate those blinky flashy GIF, they are truly the spawn of Hades.)"

Free stuff rarely lasts long unfortunately, long term no company can give services for free. You will have to keep "shifting" as things change.

What is the limit on the Flickr Pro? Do you have an idea about how many images you have? (looking for other services)

Not that long ago it was 1 terabyte free storage.

My usages is "Using 0.0% of 1TB"

Hmm... that does not make sense, i.e. using 0% and you have almost 1k images...

Well, you have 90 images before you need an alternative...

      How about dropbox?

I know a few names of other photo hosting sites but haven't looked at them since Photobucket did its thing in the recent past.

Before doing something I want to see how they reply to my message.

I know they need to pay the power bill for the servers and I would not object to contributing.

Right now the only way I have any spending money at all is I stopped paying Medicaid their $118 a month "spend down".

MedicareRx is about $54 a month unless I want to go to mail order Rx from people who are clueless about all my immune system quirks.

I once asked a Medicare rep who called me about going to mail order Rx why they were on mission to kill the jobs at our farm burg's locally owned pharmacy.

      They had no answer.

The Medicaid spend down thing is interesting - if I use no health care that month they keep my money & if I use a lot of health care that month they keep my money.
      But ...

If I used a certain amount of health care relative to what I paid they refunded part or all of my money.

Ahhh, so all I have to do is figure out just the right amount of unnecessary health care to get each month and I can get my money back to have some money to spend on hobbies -- Cool!
But somehow that didn't sound quite honest, so I just quit paying them and dropped the coverage.

We have medicare, and then a supplemental on top... the key we found was from paying attention: "we pay the part medicare does not"....

Most people interpret that as "whatever medicare does not cover we pay" WRONG!!!

It turns out that for Medicare covered procedures, where Medicare pays 80%, they will pay the other 20%....

So, we have the following conversation at EVERY turn at the doctor/hospital: "Do not do ANYTHING that is not covered by Medicare".... result.... 1/2 million of bills for my wife in the last 6 months, and we paid zero.

Now, I have not found a way to get drugs at zero, but you have to have the doctor remember (remind constantly)... generic and 3 month prescriptions... that saves a ton of money. Next is to work with the insurance companies EVERY year to give them a list of your drugs and make sure they are all covered at the "best" level, not the "higher cost" level.

That is a royal pain, but unfortunately necessary. Case in point, several medications for my wife cost $40 a month, but without the coverage they are $1,500 a month...

Really fun having to keep on top of this, but if you don't do it, no one else will.

Getting old is real fun... Greg

A few years ago I had reached the limit of free storage on Flickr. So I spent the money for the pro version. Then they increased the amount of space that people could have for free.

I don't mind paying a  reasonable price for photo storage.

This is a bummer to me, but I figured some changes were on the way since Flickr's sale.  This is where I store all the photos I post here.  I do agree that 1000 photos is still a good amount and fair, but I may be at or near that now.  I'm not sure that I want to pay for storage.  I'd rather pay Bob for storage on this site. In fact I have Paid Bob several times but just as a thanks for the site.  I've never paid much attention to how much room I have in my freight shed or how my payments effect the space.  I only have about a dozen photos in there.

Anyway, here is a good article on Flickr:

      Got reply from Flickr;

      Dear Scott,

Thank you for contacting Flickr Support. My name is Tiffany and I would be happy to assist you today.

At this time, the only discount we are offering is the 30% off for new Pro subscribers. This offer will only be valid until the end of November.

If you’re unable at the moment to pay for a full year of Flickr Pro but want to make sure all your photos are safe, you have the option to pay monthly at $5.99 per month and upgrade to an annual plan when it is convenient for you.

Please feel free to reach back out to us if you have any other questions or concerns.

And that discount is only for one year, right? After the first year you go back to full price?
