WW&F Way Car

After getting my new Roundhouse Forney I decided to build a few car to go with it. I always enjoyed seeing Erics Maine 2ft stuff and decided to do the same. I built two flat cars and I had an Ozark Miniature box car kit that was pretty close. I always like the Way car that Eric had. I decided I wanted build one or at least try. Eric was able to send me a PDF of the plans to help with my build. Ill never have the skills Eric has so I did a few different things to make it work.

Looking great so far. Following with interest…

Next step is getting the sides cut. I just used modeling plywood. The inside and outside will get scribed wood

The outside was done with bass wood scribed sheets. and painted. I tried to match the color of the actual WW&F as close as I can. Again I wasn’t really doing an exact replica More my version. The roof beams were added. My next step is to work on the windows before putting the roof on and cupola

Been watching this on FB, stunning build to say the least.

Doing real good so far.

It is coming along well shawn!! Have fun with it!

Got more work done on the caboose. Cupola was tricky with the angles and small pieces of wood that had to be cut (Really need a micro mark mini saw) I started putting the trucks together as well.

Shawn, I’m curious what scale you are building to? Eric’s stuff is usually 7/8ths (1:13.7) so is that what his plans are? But the Forney is 1:19th scale, I guess?

Notes: The RH Forney can be set to 32mm gauge (O gauge) and that is quite common in the UK as representing 2’ gauge [I know you know - just reiterating for the non-believers.] There’s a UK firm now making SR&RL rolling stock in 19th scale (SM32, or 16mm:ft) and Jason at the Train Dept has some 7/8ths scale cars.

I have the possibility of a small 32mm line on my new condo’s deck, so I am seriously considering something similar.

Pete this is 1:20 scale Eric had the plans in PDF for 1:20. I just had staples print it out. The Forney is 1:19 Scale so being on 45mm track its still going to be off somewhat. I have the Accucraft 1:20 scale coaches and they are def a little too big. Seems th LGB fit it the best but the length is too short.

Thanks too the rainy and hot weather I was able to get a little more done. The cupola is finished. That took some time with the angles and sanding. I just need to finish the roof off, add end beams and detail.

Caboose is looking great. It will be a fine addition to your fleet. But you have to paint that brass rail in the pile. It just doesn’t fit with how perfect everything else is (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Looks great Shawn…maybe i should build one in 1:20 scale too!

Nice waycar.

And you couldn’t have a better setting to display it in.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Thanks guys. Eric yo should build one in 1:20 to go with your others.

I did manage to get the trucks on and aluminium foil tape for roof. Just need to add railings, truss rods, paint the roof and few smaller details
