Gauge 1 reefers needed....

at least one, anyhow, two would be better. Reason is that now I have my complete ‘Canadian’ consist of passenger cars, I need at least one reefer to complete the train. Seems that while there are people happy enough to haul fifty or sixty Pacific Fast Froot cars around [ leading to the shortage over here that has plagued us for years] nobody is keen to sell me a couple that I can convert to CP colour scheme Likely candidates are therefore limited to either MTH or AMS, and neither seem to have made a CP reefer. I’m happy, with the help of Stan Cedarleaf, to do a repaint job, if anybody out there has one or two cars they can spare me. NOT USA Trains, please, they are just too big.

Depending on where we’ll be at the time, sending them to an address in Eugene or Ontario makes them a lot cheaper than shipping them over to the yUK.

TIA

I have some AMS I might be willing to trade for On30 stuff.

You should have come to the Invasion in Ottawa just last month.

When will you next be here?

Hey there, Don. I KNOW I should have been at the Invasion, however, Gaynor’s health takes precedence. She’s awaiting eye surgery and the call to go and get it done, so we are hovering around the phone rather than enjoying being back home in sunny Canadia the Beautiful.

Next stop, as soon as it’s done, will be Portland OR, followed by Eugene and Port Orford, just as soon as we can do it, but I don’t have any 0n30 stuff of any kind, I’m afraid. :frowning:

Best you you and all there

Hey TAC,

This eye surgery stuff sounds kind of serious. Hope and prayers that all goes well and with little discomfort. All the best from Ric and Jan.

RLD has AML on a great sale…

@ Rick and Jan - thanks for your good thoughts - she has cataracts - worse in one eye than the other, but the hospital is messing her around with date-changing…grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Means we can’t make any plans to get away yet. By now we would usually have been and come back wih a zillion good memories and pictures.

@ Greg - many thanks for that, Greg - if I see aything there I’ll get it shipped straight to Eugene/Port Orford and collect while we are there.

Best to all here.

There are CN and CP stock cars, don’t know if you are interested, but incredible price:

The only reefers left are PFE, but 1/2 price… in the clearance section.

Tac, grab a lottery ticket!

(Gents! Would you help me to open up these pictures if not shown properly, as I’m not too familiar)

Pictures show a 1:32 CP reefer beside an Aristo 1:29 PFE reefer. The manufacturer of the 1:32 reefer is unknown. (I don’t have the box neither).

It might be a former Pacific Scale Rail car or kit:

http://www.pacificscalerail.com/stafflay/george/george_lt1.html : (If someone knows something, well just step in!)

It represents a CP 284400 35’ or 36’ reefer series as these pictures:

http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/cp/cp284426jpb.jpg

CDS dry lettering was used (Kit G-177) and no more available at:

https://www.tmrdistributing.com/presta/index.php?id_manufacturer=3&controller=manufacturer

The four ‘top-traps’ can open (one is opened on the picture). The side doors cannot open. Has spring-loaded trucks with metal wheels (Looks like LGB ones). Gauge 1 KDs.

The car looks nice (tiny details) but it is not perfect ( missing half of the brakewheel, missing one side door hinge (not shown on pictures), some ladders are broken or partially missing).

If you are interested, well PM me, leave me your email address and I’ll send you more detailed pictures. I can send it easily to Fr. Fred as I’m on the other side of the Ottawa River.

Yves.

Yves;

Send me the pictures, and I can try to identify the cars for you…

Terry;

As you well understand; calling the reefer you want and the train it is to be used with, “Gauge One” causes so many misunderstanding around here.

What the car should be described as is, by “Scale” not gauge. So many different scales are found wandering along Gauge One track…

Aristo, was produced in 1:29 scale, for example, and your passenger stock is probably 1:32… (I’m guessing)

I have a number of “Express Reefers”
, built from LGB, and Bachmann (1:22.5) reefers, using LGB or B’mann passenger trucks (Bogies), plus a few other added details.

If you could locate an old “Delton” (1:24) reefer, it just might look good with your stock. Painted in CPR Tuscan Red, and lettered Canadian Pacific, might do the trick.

You could try placing an ordinary B’mann (1:22.5) reefer in the consist, just to see how it looks, before making any modifications. Body mounting Kadee couplers on the cars does wonders with the looks with closer coupling of the cars.

I can get one of the lads to photograph one or two of the “Bashed” reefers for you, to show what they look like. In reality, some "Express reefers did sit higher than the roofs of some passenger stock.

Fred Mills

Yes, Fred, I understand the confunglement suffered by some folks about Gauge 1, and indeed, I have both Gauge 1 AND 1/29th scale running - although not at the same time for obvious reasons. I have eight Aristo diesels of one kind or another, one of which is a reasonable attempt at a CPR SD45, although we all know that the cab is wrong, the bells and lights are wrong, the cold-weather gear is non-existent and so on. @Yves, I’ve opened up your images, and TTTT they look exactly what I had in mind. I did a fair amount of business with Terry at CDS, before he ‘took down his shingle’, and I was never disappointed with his merchandise. If the car you are offering looks like the car in the photos, that would be great! Details are not a problem for me, as I scratch-build most of my 1/20.2 cars anyhow, as many hereabouts know.

All I’m trying to do is to approximate the Vancouver - Calgary express train, which had one or two reefers behind the tender, filled with fresh fruit produce for in the inland cities. Your PM has my details.

All the best wishes from here in VERY sunny East Anglia to all my MANY friends on this forum!

If Fred does not have everything you need I have two 1:29 aristo refers for $30 each.

$30 ACT46105 D&RGW Steel Stock Car D&RGW 46105
*Note one side faded

$30 ACT46112 Steel Stock Car Illinois Central RR I.C. 46112
*Note one side faded

Its a shame we did not make a connection earlier as they could have ben brought back to Canada by the folks at TrainOps.

Stan

Ah, Stan, many thanks for your more than kind offer of cars. However, they are 10% too large in scale from my 1/32nd scale loco and consist, and would I fear, overpower the tender instead of hanging behind. Many thanks again for thinking of my predicament.

Best from over here.

TAC, I’m sorry, the links were for the AML cars, although their reefers and stock cars are smaller than a 1:29 box, I perceive that you want 1:32

tac, you said "I have both Gauge 1 AND 1/29th scale running ". That is confusing to many folks, because most of here run on gauge 1 track (usually called G gauge, but its the same thing). Gauge is the distance between the rails, for this conversation its 45mm. On my gauge 1 track, I run 1:20.3, 1:22, 1:24, 1:29, 1:32, 1:gummy, and others. It can be all called gauge 1, because the track gauge never changes.

No, I am not trying to be Fred, I am just trying to explain for the sake of clarity. You want 1:32nd, that is what you should ask for, so those of us out here in the cyber wilderness understand what you are asking for.

Back in the beginning all was explained: He has put together a 1:32passenger train and wants to add an express reefer.

No problem You are correct 1:29 overpowers 1:32

I believe that Accucraft and MTH both build refers in 1:32. Ebay likely the lease expensive place to purchase them.

Good luck
