Butterfly train station roof question

Looking at building a butterfly roof and had a question. looking for ideas for building the supports for under the roof canop.

Welcome Steve M

Would like to possibly help but your picture does not work?

Steve, i have lots of tools and can choose my weapon…what i would do is draw a pattern, stack several sheets of plywood trace the pattern on to the top sheet as many times as i would need and saw out a bunch of identical Y shaped peices with my band saw. No band saw, cut one at a time with a coping saw or a hand held power jig saw. They could then be glued to posts and the roof boards.

Check your messages, I sent pic posting info…

John Thanks, working off iPad and cell most of the time.

There are mouseless ways to do it, but I don’t have that clue…

There are mouseless ways to do it,

I seldom use a mouse when woodworking.

Hi Steve,

Is your picture from the NH railroad? Just curious If that is your prototype railroad, or if it was just for inspiration.

I’m looking to build something like this as well in the future. I have a large amount of Boston and Maine commuter equipment and plan to build a freelance stub-end terminal. My backyard is totally torn up (logging) so it probably won’t happen till next year.

Please be sure to post your progress if you have time…

You were close…

Back to the canopy, most of the structure appears to be made of conventional shapes. I’d have the top Y part printed to fit a tube or rod [correction an I beam]… the other shapes can come from Plastruct or similar manufacturers.

Edited for the I

Rocky,

Picture is from Washington terminal in DC, currently what I’m modeling in a very condensed version. Not enough money for 30 tracks across plus all switches and interlocking… I’ll have to see if I can do any better with the iPad.

Great idea, although I’m not a cad guy so not sure who I can get to draw this up.

Edited for the I

I’m not a cad guy either. I’d use my square and mech. drawing board to draw what I needed with dimensions etc… Take a picture to get the idea digital and then sweet talk a friend here with a printer…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) then ok I’d pay for it…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

The parts appear flat, print for duplicates.
