Large Scale Central

My elevated layout build.

Finally they are starting on my raised layout. 20 x 50’, kept it smaller due to my age. More trenching to come, then fill with crushed concrete and tamp it good. Two ‘islands’ connected with bridges from my old layout in Nebraska. 3 blocks high(and a cap) on the one side, 4 blocks on the other. Gray area in the drawing is the ‘canyon’ between the two islands. Orange line in the pix shows where that is at. 600 blocks to go!

Can’t seem to get a second attachment.

Second picture.

Nice start.

Yep I need to keep watching the progress as this something I’m planning on doing as fall gets closer. Ya and I have to do my own work can’t afford hired help(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif) I do have some volunteers that will be stepping in when construction starts. Later RJD

I had no one here for help, sore hiring it done, it’ ain’t cheap. High bid was $10K, . I went with a lower bid. Had bought the big blocks earlier. 70 lbs each and no I did not carry them. 600 blocks.

Jerry, looks like a nice layout plan… Will be a pleasure watching the progress… Jane and I basically built the walls for our railroad… We built a wall a year when we first started…

Had the brick builders delivery 45 ft flatbed semi here a few times, with a forklift mounted on the trailer delivering retaining wall bricks… They would offload and place the skid where I wanted them…

Always knew having someone build the walls would be way too expensive…

Double post.

So you have been building that impressive line for 45 years now and still not finished ?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Making progress on the blocks. He put down crushed concrete with a layer on top. BLocks are moartered to each other and below. This is the low side of the yard, will be 4 blocks high with a cap on top. Drains are cut and pipes will be inside. High side of the yard will be 2 blocks high with a cap. Running a spur from my shed to that side. Center pile of dirt will be added to the near and far side, that area will be the ‘canyon’ floor, even with ground level. Thanks to who fixes my pictures.

Any time Jerry! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

ditto, although I don’t know why they did not go up, since the last one appeared to have https: on it…

Greg

p.s. you can tell who fixed the pics, by who posted it… (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(but Joe appears to understand what is wrong better)

wow!

that looks like some serious terraforming.

Rain has held things up some. Before that he moved some dirt around. That is the wall on the low side of the yard, will have a cap on it and one all the way around. I ran wire for track power and lights thru the blue conduit pipe. Need more dirt, seeing about that tomorrow and looking at rocks to get. Hopefully the weather will be okay(except for being 100!). Okay will try a freight shed pix. \
