      Mini OPS, 25 June

Had a fella stop by yesterday and we ran a couple trains.

This is a landmark event in the history of the new Shasta Pacific/South Fork Timber Co. railroad as the first operations session.

Granted there were only two of us and one controller but we managed to have a good time.

And yes Ken I got that dam switch regauged

Here Ken Brunt is working the loads at Camp Six getting ready to take them down the hill.

Working the cars at Camp Six

I should have taken more pictures but we were having too much fun running trains and ribbing each other about our mistakes.

Ken and I are traveling over to the coast on Thursday to spend the day with Dick and Helen Smith and practice our mistake making on the Port Orford Coast Railroad.

Thanks for a great time yesterday Ken, it was  a pleasure to finally meet you in person.

      Rick

Looks like you both had a great time.  The railroad looks fantastic, Rick.

Rick, it was an honor to be a part of the first ops session on your railroad. And it was great meeting you and Pat. And swapping war stories on the ride to and from Dick's was fun. I had a blast. (Don't worry Rick, we'll find another switch that needs fixin next time I'm there...........)

Ken, glad to hear you and yours made it home safe.

Couldn't have asked for a smother operator for the first session, hmmm that could be taken several ways.

When 2 acquaintances spend 6 hours in a car they are no longer just acquaintances, proud to call you a friend!

You will be happy to hear that I got that problematic switch fixed and reinstalled and working fine, then got paranoid

and rechecked all the rest of the switches.  So we are are all set for your return visit next week

And, just to prove we were actually at the Port Orford Coast RR here is a picture that includes the crusty old manager of the railroad.

I say manager because, and it is a sad story of financial abuse, the railroad went into receivership and now is being managed by bean counters, oh well

Here is a good shot of Dick and Ken just before lunch at TJ's.

      We had a great time

      Rick

We left Medford at 6 am and it was about 55 degrees. Arrived in Philly about 4 pm to humid 93 degree weather. If it keeps this up I may be back next week.................

What a great thread!  I got a call from "The Brunt", yesterday and he directed me to this thread.  Very cool, good pictures and a great report on good friends and fellow enthusiasts.  Thanks!

      I know Ric!

It just blows me away with the technology these days that you can take them old black and white pictures and make them technicolor like that.
