Headlight Lenses

There was a discussion a while back that I can’t find about buying G Scale headlight lenses. My search was not successful. Someone mentioned this here new-fangled glue stuff, so I thought I’d try it.

It is very tricky to use when you are trying to glue 2 pieces together because the blue light need to shine on the glue. If you have a tight joint, the light can’t reach it.

But I followed the suggestion from someone (you know who you are because I can’t remember) to do several layers for a headlight lens.

Being so successful, I decided to cover the number boards, too.

These are for USAT NW-2. The Raritan River Rail Road had different headlights, so I had ordered these from Shapeways.

Completed pictures to be posted later. It was not easy to get the light bulbs out of the old headlights.

OK, coulda been Joe.

If there is a prize I’ll take my credit, if not, then probably Joe.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

OK, coulda been John.

I can’t remembering adding the layering part, but I had seen it was clear the day before…

I did suggest it here (LSC, can’t say which thread).

Here’s the thread https://largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/28019/clear-lens-for-classification-lamp

Yep, I’m on the 1st page and no to layering (as a suggestion by me), many ideas went into the pot.

Try www.esslinger.com . They do watch crystals. For class lamps and the like, look for the date magnifiers. I used their 6.5mm date magnifiers in my LGB White Pass kitbash. They make domed crystals (down to 8 or 9mm, I think) which would work well for larger headlights.

Later,

K

Dang, they do a lot more then that! They have number and letter punches, synthetic crystals (like those used as class lights in the smaller scares), miniature screws… I could spend my whole allowance there. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

I just asked for an increase in my train allowance…

Steve, that would mean me working more overtime, and that would leave me less time for important stuff, like working on my railroad.
