      Resin casting

Dreary day keeping me in the shop, so I'm doing a bit of experimental casting.  Here's some pipes, and some structural bits.  Molds are a recast mold from ones I bought from Bruce Hirst (http://hirstarts.com/).  Resin wrecks molds, so I want to use 2nd-generation ones for resin.

The pipes have lots of uses.  First will be piping around the tank at Goodson's Batteries.  The structural bits I'll be using on various bridges for some visual interest.

EDIT: The molds I used here are #274, 320 and 321.  Found on this page.  http://hirstarts.com/molds/moldssci.html

      Looks great!

I need to work on my casting skills. They are pretty aweful.

I think I have pretty good casting skills, but every time I want to cast something the material has dried up.  Wait, maybe the material is trying to tell me something????

Smooth Cast 300.  I used to use Aeromarine ivory but it really tore up my molds after a dozen or so casts.  Smooth Cast seems kinder to the mold when I’m demolding.

Here’s a tank top valve assembly.

taking in mind, that the original maker of the moulds does sell second or third generation moulds, making your "second" moulds to third or fourth generation, i am astonished how precise the pieces look.

Followup.  Here's the finished product.  I end-drilled all the parts, and epoxied 1/8 threaded rod to keep the pieces together, and also to attach it to the tank.

And in place at Goodson's, ready for business.
