Has Anyone ever tried the KM1 smoke unit?

So I have a couple of nice steam engines now (USAT Hudson, AML K4) and really wanting to add a nice smoke unit to them and really get a chuffing effect. This far I have been less then enthused about what is available. I ended up seeing video on the KM1 smoke unit from Germany and it looks impressive but I cannot find out much information on it. I am wondering if anyone on here has gotten one? I am trying to determine is it a self contained unit that is driven by magnets put on a shaft? Can it be driven by a chuff sensor? Does it require triggering from some proprietary board from KM1? I am trying to determine if this might be a good solution for what I am looking for. The German manufacturer can be found here:

Video of it in action can be found here:

Hmmmm looks impressive for sure…

Doesn’t it? I just wish I could find out more info on it.

KM1 is the mfg. of that loc. that loc. is right around $5500.00 and I did not see just the smoke unit.

I did find it looks like $138.60 also needs control board for $82.60 and magnet TBA

Richard, that’s what I am wondering does it need that control board or does it come with it? When I look at their product page it looks like it is all part of the unit and then you just need the magnets to get the chuffing. I tried emailing Reynaulds who sells it here in the US but no one responded.

Follow up in translating the website about the product I get this:

A driving dynamics controlled and radsynchron clocked smoke developer for retrofitting in digital railroad models of lane 0, 1 and 2

With the new Dynamic Smoke Smoke Developer you have the ability to upgrade your models with a powerful, modifiable and reliable product that will give your models more true to the original.

1x smoke developer with cylindrical housing
• 1x 6-pin connection cable
• 1x control board
• 1x Hall sensor with PCB
• 4x magnets (or 6 magnets)
• 1x axle sleeve for 4 magnets (or for 6 magnets)
• 1x universal bracket
• 1x pipette
• 1x 20 ml steam distillate

Ok in further searching I found the manual and by the looks of it and its translation the unit is self contained and does not require a decoder board to run. The manual can be found here:

Joe there closed on Monday, boy I don’t know why would they list the control board separate if you did not need it.
