And now for some fun with fun with freelance railway characters.
–> And feel free to contribute your own.
Railways need a story and the story needs people.
Way back in school days I wrote or at least played at writing short scenes for my freelance railroad companies.
The MF&SJR, Mount Fresco and Saint James River Railway had a rural branch line where an ex-N&W GP9 was based at its end in an 1800s engine shed.
There was a resident tomcat Fred, who kept rein on the mice which would have liked to chew on the traction motor cables.
I was the engineer. Conductor/brakeman was Barstow Browne, aka Bar, or sometimes BarBee.
Station agent/branchline dispatcher at the junction depot was Sally (who has gone multiple decades without a last name)
There was an engineer named Ed, who was on the trolley division with a multiple-unit ex-mining loco.
Another engineer was Louie with his constant companion a deaf Australian shepherd who I’d have to look up the name for.
Neither of them has had last names so far.
–> A few days ago a new character came to mind;
How about a track foreman (foreperson?) named Lucy Joiner.
Yeah, I know, everybody’s a comedian.
Ed, Louie, and the dog are the only ones there are figures made for.
This year maybe the rest will become a project.
