USAT Streamliner disassembly questions

Hi everyone,

Need to tear down a Santa Fe combine car. It has a couple of people floating around in it. I’ve looked at a couple of sites and know its not the easiest repair but have a couple of questions that I can’t find answers to. on the combine car it has the 2 large baggage doors. it looks like the door handle will not clear the body to remove the floor. Is the handle removable? is there another way to get the right clearance? Also I thought the light board would just pull out as it slides on the upper t slot mine seems like it has something locking it in position. Last question do most people that go to LEDs just buy the board from USAT or just add LEDs to the current board? Any help would be great just don’t want to permanently damage the car.

That’s why I waited for the new USAT passenger cars to come out with the LED’s mounted in them already. It’s a b*tch taking them apart and putting them back together! One California Zephyr car was available in the Swap Shop last week at a good price and I passed because it was from the older run of cars w/o LED lighting.

Dave, is it possible the door is fixed to the body and not the floor. I have never dealt with USA Pass. cars, but I thought I would at least try to help. No, it looks like it is mounted to the floor. thinking about building a jig to pull floor with a bottle jack. I have 13 of these I need to open up.

I never suggested that he go battery! Did you see anything in my post where I even alluded to that? No. I will suggest, though, that he solicit help from someone who’s done it before. Even watching an experienced guy take one apart and put it back together is better than taking the chance of breaking even one of those 13 cars.

Oh yeah. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
