These are all my photos. They were taken with either a Canon 20D, or a Canon 1D. In either case, the lens was a Tamron SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD.

      Here are a few more...

      White Breasted Nuthatch

      Northern Pintail

Recently I spotted a hummingbird in its nest, a few blocks from our house:

I had some trouble getting the focus on the bird rather than the nest, due to the branches moving around in the wind

Sad news -- I went to visit the hummingbird today, and found that the tree had been trimmed way back. No more nest.   :(

We have a brand new resident.  On Sunday this guy started showing up regularly throughout the day.  This is a blue bunting and is a member of the finch family.

He looks like an escapee from a pet shop. Cool.

Beautiful!  Most of the birds we see around here are pretty drab.

Probably not. If it is a Blue bunting, it is a major thing, since they are primarily coastal Mexico and Central America, and the only confirmed sightings in the U.S. are in southern Texas. It is likely an Indigo Bunting, which would still be rare, but more reasonable, as they are spreading across the southwest U.S.

You are most likely correct.  The 'net pics appear similar for the two, but indigo buntings sightings are confirmed in So Cal.  Also, the indigo bunting beak may be a bit lighter than the blue bunting beak, and this guy definitely has a light beak.  Thanks.
