Large Scale Central

Coffee!

The coffee station this morning…

In the center is the Royal Belgian siphon coffee maker my wife got me for Christmas.

I got her a hedge trimmer and a 4-foot level.

I got SWMBO a couple different pairs of garden clippers. She thought they were great.

One year, after we moved here, I got Jane a load of 2 year old horse manure delivered on a 16 ft flatbed auto trailer… She was grinning ear to ear… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Another year, I got a set of His and Her snow shovels… Mine is still unused, want it to be available in case hers gets damaged… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Edited for typo’s…

I doubt there is a punchline Bruce. But I would be willing to bet mom is still slipping it into the mans breakfast he demands!

Newp, no punchline… The manure was for her garden, since the area is all clay… It was actually, something she wanted… After a few years, she determined that she didn’t have the time work the garden, so now, she just plans a few items along the driveway wall area…

Inaugural run of the balancing siphon coffeemaker my wife gave me. I can confirm two things. It runs just fine on Everclear, and it makes one heck of a good cup of coffee.

How does that coffee maker work?

Did you watch the video?

Ground coffee goes in the glass goblet. Water goes in the copper carafe. Alcohol lamp heats the water. When the water boils, it is forced up the metal pipe, and down into the coffee grounds which are swirled around by the water as it fills the glass goblet. As the water leaves the metal carafe, it gets lighter, and begins to lift on the balance arm. When it is empty, it raises high enough to allow the lid of the alcohol burner to snap close, snuffing the flame. At this point the empty metal carafe gets cooler, forming a vacuum, which sucks the coffee up through the pipe, which has a filter on the end to leave the grounds behind, and into the metal carafe. the carafe has a tap on it to allow you to fill your cup.

Yo get a fabulous cup of coffee with all the flavor, and none of the bitterness. It is not for everyone. It is fiddly, and takes about ten minutes or so for the water to boil. Convenient, it is not. But it is fun, to me.

Daniel, do you mix coffee with kahlua??

i would think that this mix produces ears, that any elf would envy.

Hehe. The video showed up the minute I posted my question! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Never seen anything like that; I wonder what they were drinking when they came up with that idea? (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Anyway, pretty cool. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I haven’t, but only because I don’t drink much.

Since it dates to the mid-18th century, they could have been drinking anything.
