Large Scale Central

I know these are rare, but is it really worth this?

I know Roberts Line Zephyrs are the hen’s teeth of hen’s teeth in rarity, but a shade under $10k seams hopelessly optimistic.

yeah and he still wants $140 to ship.

They are rare, but look closely at the finish, the castings are a bit rough and pebbly… not worth that price, also the power/motor pretty poor.

Jerry Barnes has a set and I thought he re-motored his. I’d love to have a set, but $1000 would be the top I would pay in perfect shape.

Greg

I did work on one and the brass U joints were very worn. Wires are very small and fragile from what I remember.

Both ends have motors, but power pickup is independent on each end and the motor block is very short. Need real clean track to run these.

The whole train set is metal.

On the bright side there is an option to make payments !

I agree with Greg that the castings look shabby.

Didn’t Jerry Barnes make his set? I would think if someone really wanted one of these it could be custom built to be better looking and more reliable for a fraction of that price.

DOn’t know what the problem is with LSC, Utube or firefox but I am done trying to right this after four tries of everything getting deleted.

I like mine a lot. Did replace the brass u-joint. Pulled the rear motor out and put an interior in the cars and lights. Gary Raymond ball bearing pickup wheels were added so electrical contact is spread across, runs smooth as silk. I had Ray Manley put a MTH PS3 board and sound in it, so it is DC/Dcc and MTH’s DCS, sounds great. The original Pittman front motor died, so I swapped in the motor that had been in the back(front and rear seemed to run different speeds) and have since picked up another Pittman. You can still get them from Pittman also. Sets usually sell for about $3-5,000. Only 100 sets were made. I’ll try to embed this video I made of it’s first sound run.

It does look to be in pretty good condition. You can make an offer?

Jerry,

Your Zephyr looks and sounds GREAT! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Here’s what Boomer was trying to embed…

these looong, silvery things… - looks like something, Rooster would model.

Looks good Joe. Larry Tennyson sent me this pix of what he’s making for his to use smoke. Pretty smart guy! MTH smoke unit. Guess I’m not on posting photos.

Thanks Joe, how did you do it?

I’d love a zephyr, but afraid at those prices I’m gonna just have to hone my skills and make me one hahaha

Knowing your skills, I’m sure you can do it. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
