2017 Meteorological spring photo thread.

Meteorological spring started March 1, to me that’s the official start, not March 21. I took these photos yesterday in spring like weather. Woke up today to snow.

Well, March 20th is the equinox, so that is really when most people consider spring to start. Here in my crazy little world, spring, and the spring rehab of the railroad, starts right after the ECLSTS. The first revenue train is scheduled May first, just like every year.

Shawn, we’ll send it all up to you, since you like it so much…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

For me (Western NY) both “meteorological spring”, April 1, and “Calendar spring”, Spring Equinox on March 20, are both off…both too early.

Around here, March is always the 5th and last month of winter…Spring begins April 1st…

Pretty much the same here. We can still see winter till 2nd week of april. But I still like to go with the official meteorological spring of March 1. I also prefere Dec 1 as the official start of winter. lol

LOVE IT !!!

Are you using your phone for the pics??

Thanks guys and Rooster. Yes Im using an Android phone for all my pictures these days. Its so much easier and the quality is better then my point and shoot.

The photos are really crisp and clear. Think the first one is my favorite.

Yes! …it was that first pic that prompted my question as I figured he was using his phone.

Thanks I think everything was in my favor for that shot (lighting etc)

Very nice Shawn, you can send that snow back my way.

Still 124" of snow up where we usually have our first ride of the season. So my spring is late June, prolly.

Tomorrow is the official 1st day of spring. It doesn’t look like trains will be running on the C.V.S.Ry. Outdoor Div. anytime soon…

In case you don’t recognize it, that’s an Aristo stilt mounted switch tower. Window bottoms are about 10 scale feet above the rail heads. I didn’t get a shot, but my large engine house is just starting to peek out from under a drift.

This was as of yesterday

Shawn, that reminds me of the guy who modeled a subway.

We’re going to need a Bigger Plow!

Today, after work, and going potty, and changing my clothes, I discovered the track crew was starting on the spring rehab of the railroad.

So right now we are ahead of schedule. The rehab doesn’t usually start until AFTER the ECLSTS. But when the sun went below the treeline, the cold wind put a stop to the track-work for today.

Tom Morrow, my foreman, pointed out to me something he had discovered. I had purchased some used Aristo stainless 8 foot track at auction, for repairs and such. Some of the track has AML ties on it. He showed me the difference in the Aristo ties and the AML ties.

To my eye they look close enough, so I had Tom put the AML ties in the pile of new ties. When we have broken ties that need replaced, we will use some of the AML ties as well as the Aristo ones we have.
