Large Scale Central

heavily weathered LGB ACF centerflow

the rustoleum spray paint i used to repaint this car began to chip so I used to opportunity to heavily weather it in hopes to salvage the paint

we will see

I like it. Especially how you got the horizontal bands in the rust. Just like the 12 inch to the foot ones I see around here.

Better watch it, Rooster will get out there with his can of spray paint if ya ain’t watchin’!

Looks great

Cool looking car .Chipping paint is something I try to replicate so that is a good thing . Did you wash the model before you painted it or is Rustoleum not the best choice for plastic models ? I personally like Krylon .

There’s is a guy on Ebay who sells great large scale graffiti. So does our own Stan Cederleaf. That will finish it off nicely.

Looks nice as it is, tho! Good job!

Roof decking looks to new/clean

Looks real John !

I always think ‘weather’, sometimes even before something goes ‘off’ on a unit.

Natural coverup … rust, dust, dirt, soot ?

doug c

the model was washed and dried.

the chips were huge

and is was clear coated

since then I have switched to krylon

I am a Krylon fan myself.

I know you know this, but I can’t help myself. Several thin coats are better then one thick coat of paint. It covers better, and is less prone to chipping.

The other thing, when I wash my models before painting, I use Comet cleanser on them to take the gloss off of them, so the paint adheres better. And I always use a primer coat, again, so the finish coat adheres better. Whether it actually helps or not, I can’t say. Its just what I have always done.

Yes, yes, yes. I can’t stress how important a primer coat is. I’ve learned my lessons over the years. Now I never paint a model without a primer.

My favorite primer is Tamiya Fine Surface Primer…although I use this almost exclusively for HO scale projects where you don’t want fine detailes obscured by thick paint.

I also use Rustoleum Automobile Primer for larger scales, like G. But I do very very quick fine coats. Building up the layers slowly. Takes a lot of time, but the results are definitely worth it in the end. Especially for model cars, where you want an almost mirror finish.

Oh and I really like the weathering on the hopper. Color choice is very realistic.

That is a great looking weathering job, John… Fantastic… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
