Lets see. The log would be

  1. Buy tank cars at York.

  2. Find logo decals from Stan, and numbers I printed myself.

  3. Apply said decals

  4. Clear coat

  5. Get them out of my shop because they’re in the way

And, no pictures of my shop because it looks like someone threw a grenade into Fibber McGee’s closet.

That’s the exact same build log as mine except for the purchase location. (eBay-San Val)

Nice addition Bob, I like the color too. Growing up in Oil City, I’ve always loved tank cars. Always good to clean the work bench off so you can work on the next project you’ve been hoarding in the corner for the last several months.

Bet them tank cars are hauling sludge… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Bob has a pool and didn’t invite us over to swim?

Randy, I keep trying to get a cleared off workbench, but things keep showing up on it. And “several months?” Gee, I have projects that are years in the making.

Question Bob ?

Is there a reason for the difference tank car nbr’s. ???

Maybe to go with other rolling stock nbr’s, or it is just random nbr’s. on the tank cars.

Very nice looking tank car… Regardless of what is in them. lol.

Why would one number all 3 cars the same number???

In fact, when I lettered up my Pittsburgh Metal Airplane boxcar, I put different numbers on each side. One side is number 2, the other side is number 4. I was thinking of doing the same with the latest batch of cars waiting to be lettered. That way it would appear that I have more cars then I do.

Edit for nonsensical rambling about boxcar numbers.

Noel, When doing “'operations”" with a computer program, the way to identify different like cars is with a separate/different car number, just like the 1:1 railroads… If the computer generates the manifest/train orders, it needs to know each car individually…

Andy yes. And in “real life”, cars don’t have the same number.

OK, it wasnt just me that didnt understand his question. All cars of a type will have different numbers and/or reporting marks

Bob, and just like the 1:1 guys, I try and keep my cars in groups. As in my boxcars are numbered in the low 600s, my hopper cars are from 130 to just over 200, my flats are in the 300s, and so on.
