G Scale Tractors

Some tractors I’ve been working on for the G scale layout.

Both were old toy tractors I found on eBay. They scale out between 1/24 - 1/22. Just perfect for my layout.

Finished one as an Allis Chalmers, the one still in primer will be a John Deere. The AC plow is an older Ertl 1/32 model.

Before pic of the Allis Chalmers:

Nice work! Really like how the AC came out. I see these tractors pop up at farm toy shows, may need to look next time I am at one and pick up a few. The AC is a close liking to my Allis Chalmers WD-45

Thanks Aaron.

And yes an AC WD-45 (or WC) is what I was going for. The model isn’t exact…these old toy tractors never are…but a WC is what I thought it looked close too. Looked better when I added the exhaust stack.

I used Rustoleum tractor spray paint. Pretty easy to work with. Primed with Rustoleum too. The driver was the hardest part to paint. I used various craft paints.

The AC tractor is a Barr Rubber toy. The, still to be painted, John Deere is an Auburn toy. The trick with these is finding ones that are good for G scale.

Here’s a link to a large image of the tractors:

I need you opinions/suggestions

The tractor still in primer was going to be a John Deere. However it doesn’t look like a John Deere. So I’d like your opinion on what tractor brand to go with.

Oh, IH Farmall and Allis Chalmers are also out as I already have these for the layout and I like tractor variety.

The toy is kind of a mix up of multiple brands:

Some paint combos I like

Massey Harris:

Minneapolis Moline:

Oliver:

Kind of looks like this Case, although the orange is too much like Allis Chalmers:

What do you suggest?

I’m thinking the Case.

Just add the panel in front of the steering wheel

How about Farmall?

Farmalls steering looks diff than toy.

The Case’s engine compartment looks different than the toy. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Looks close to the 1939 Ford-Ferguson 9N

my vote would be the Case VAC or the Massey 22. With a little styrene under the fuel tank to mimic the sheet metal, It think It could pass nicely for either.

And with a little more bashing, the Minneapolis Moline UB would be a really nice addition as well

What can I say, I like orange tractors (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Greens a nice color…

or blue…

Pretty impressive Ken,

But this tells an interesting story.

Steam forever

I’d be tempted to give it side covers and make it look like the Oliver.

But I also like Ken’s version. So an Oliver with a couple blown Chevy 502s might be ok

Gee, I would be tempted to build a railroad.

That’s what I thought too. I mowed fields one summer as a teenager on Ford tractors. Lots of time to think (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Yes, driving around all day will give you that.

Yes you can. You can hide from me out in your yard, while you are laying track. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
