Large Scale Central

Evening in Gilbert

I finally got 12V out in the woods to get my buildings online so here is my first power up. I only have a couple of buildings so I have a ways to go but it’s way fun. This is all driven by a 20w solar panel that charges a deep cycle marine battery I got from Wally World a few years ago. Nice solid 12V. All the lights are a mix of 12v bulbs and LEDs driven with those neat CLN3 chips.

That looks so real. If it weren’t for the tx in the first picture I would swear it was real! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Very cool Martin, I used to have lights all over my layout.

But I go to sleep before they go on. I do see them when I

pass the window to use the john at night.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Nicely done, Martin.

Ron, I too have the problem of falling asleep before the solar lights come on outside.

It does look like real scenes.

Thanks guys. I’m blessed with lots of free moss for ‘grass’. I’m working on a stop light, crossing signals and another house for this section of Gilbert. The Saveway store needs to be redone too, it’s wood and rapidly showing me that I should not have built it out of wood! Ha.

Looks great! Is the town name of Gilbert for Gilbert, WV?

Gilbert VA. About 2.1 miles from me. It’s not an accurate recreation or anything, I just like the name.

I did find this picture of the station- it was a pretty small place.

With the exception of the single room school house on the hill (which has been converted to a single family home), nothing is left of Gilbert.

It’s mostly used now as a place to park MOW stuff-

I’ve been to gilbert a couple times. I stayed at the browning fork trail house and did some 4 wheeler riding on the Hatfield-McCoy trail system. It was a nice little town.
