Gear Trouble - Bachmann 3-Truck Shay

I have a problem with my “fairly” new Bachmann 3-Truck Shay. I say new because it has been sitting on a shelf for some time and has only this past summer been converted to RC/Battery with very little run time.

Forgive my ignorance with the name of the different parts, but the two gears on the rod the third truck that hooks to the second truck just spin freely when the motors are running. I’m not sure what has happened. The engine hasn’t been dropped and was running fine until I decided to run recently and the thing wouldn’t move.

Hopefully I’ve described the issue fairly clearly and someone can give me direction for what to do to fix the issue.

Thanks,

Richard

Problem solved…it wasn’t the drive shaft after all. One of the wires had come loose from the pc board on the truck. Time to re-solder and hot glue…

I’m so glad we could be of assistance.

Happy RRing.

Ain’t this place grand? Just ask the question, and it is solved, just like that. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

BTW, the second and third drive shafts are designed to be free spinning so they do not bind up. Only the front one actually is connected to the three cylinder engine so the front truck can turn the engine and make it appear to be running.
