Shade Gap Railroad Take1

I’m a rookie when it comes to posting a topic or pictures, but I’m giving it a shot. This morning I began construction of my Neelyton yard on the “Shadey Gap” line. This process will take a long long time as I am stationed at Fortress Drum, NY and my garden railroad is in Three Springs PA. Please don’t be too harsh on my work as I am still a rookie on here.

That looks great. What track?

Everyone’s modelling the EBT these days (except me! I’m in 1/29th for a while.) Brooks - looking good! (PM sent about pics.)

Thanks Pete for the PM. Thanks Bob, it’s code 250 I got from switchcrafters awhile back with AMS ties.

Nice start… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Looks great Brooks! I thought they looked like AMS ties. Yes the Switch crafters 250 works well with them, but the AMS 250 is much more snug. The AMS 250 has a wider rail head and foot as well. I’m using my Switchcrafters rail to build my switches. What brand of switches are you using? They match the AMS ties well. Great strat. What type of equipment do you intend to run? Live steam, battery, Track power? Looking forward to whatever progress you can document.

Thanks Andy, it’s going to be a slow and steady build. I’m still designing and fine tuning my track plan, but I just ha the itch to get some tracks down on the ground. Randy, you’re spot on in regards to the rail width. My plan is to use the switchcrafters rail in my yards, sidings and a small branch line and then use my existing AMS track for the mainline.

Verry interesting , , , I was curious why Brooks’ original post had a thumbnail photo that opened to a little pic, but underneath was a link saying “image.jpg (3MB)”. The little pic wasn’t 3MB! So I right-clicked the ‘image.jpg’ and told it to open in a new window, and my Firefox obligingly downloaded it full size, all ready for close-ups.

Shade Gap is about 30 miles north of here (Richmond Furnace) in the Path Valley. Just thought a little perspective of what the RR’s had to conquer! The creeks and streams tell no lies.

Yep !

Looks like a great start, Brooks. Looking forward to more progress updates and photos.

Nice work Brook. Looks as if your off to a great start with a well thought out plan. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Hey Brook,

Three Springs, I know right where you are. Also familiar with Fort Drum. All of this a great area. You can get lots of support here. Remember the fun is in the journey, enjoy each step.

If you get leave, Randy may recruit you to work at the EBT.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I sent Brook a message telling him his old 2015 post was brought back to life …

I wonder if he still looks on ?

I think almost everyone, including me, missed that! Thanks (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

I would expect interest in modeling the EBT to be growing due to the re-awakening of the RR. If you haven’t seen what they have accomplished since February an what they are continuing to do, you will be in for a big surprise. Track and switches being re-laid along much of the tourist route and two locomotives being re-built. Bachman & R. Yoder were ahead of the curve,. Too bad they’ve both gotten out of the EBT biz.

Yep, Sean, that went right over my head (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)But I’d still like to know if he‘s made any more progress.

Might just have to make a run to Three Springs this weekend. Because I can and because there is some hellish RR history in the Path Valley which is the next range west of the Cumberland Valley as the Pennsyltuckian’s see it.

Shippensburg is to the left and Chambersburg is to the right for those that would like to follow “Brooks thread that I totally jacked up”.

Only trying to give some perspective of the area. Letterkenny is just below in the Cumberland Valley.
