Could someone explain how the reputation rating is assigned?

I just noticed this rating field today. I am not the most observant person. When did this reputation field get created?

It seems to me that some folks may be insulted as to their rating.

Not my website to control but my thought is that either a person is civilized enough to post a topic or they are no longer allowed access to the website.

Norman, yes but. To ban someone for one uncivilized post would be wrong. We all have bad days. Days were we are just a tad grumpy. That and Bob doesn’t want to play hall monitor, or baby sitter or whatever. So this is a way we can kind of moderate ourselves. I do suggest that you read through the thread that Mark posted the link to. It should explain things better then I can.
