"Problem at West Agony"

In my topic in the Articles part of this forum, Bruce Chandler said - "July 1960, “Problem at West Agony” by Terry Walsh.

Here are the drawings that were included, but there’s a lot of text as well as some solutions.

It looks like it could be very interesting."

Wonder if we could add the text and see what it’s like?

The top part of the drawing shows the train as it arrives in West Agony. The bottom part shows what it looks like when the crew has completed.

Numbered cars are in the incoming train. Lower Case Lettered cars are the ones at West Agony. Tracks are labeled with capital letters.

To paraphrase from the article text:

…this is about 1/3 of the typical action…

An eastbound way freight stops at the station.

Set Out:

  • MUT Box 90078 (3) to the Laydee-Zunder Warehouse

Pick Up:

  • SSW Reefer 81477 (z) at the Laydee-Zunder Warehouse

Transfer:

  • Move UP Stock 47035 (x) from the West Agony Stock Pen on the south side of the main, to the Wahlup Packing House on the North.

Rules:

  • When the locomotive moves in any direction, that counts as one move.
  • Coupling or uncoupling requires a stop, and that calls for the start of a new move, whether in the same direction or in reverse.
