Royal Hudson + Empire Builder consist....

This little movie was taken this afternoon at a layout in South Lincolnshire, and depicts my alcohol-fired Accucraft Royal Hudson hauling a consist of 95% scratch-built GN ‘Empire Builder’ passenger car set. Hard to see, but the observation car actually has a tiled floor at the back end where dances were held in the good ol’ days. The rest of the cars are fully fitted out with interiors in accordance with the internal diagrams of actual cars they are modelled on - thanks to the GNHA.

This is part 1, part 2, a frantic run-by, can be found by looking for, uh, Pt 2.

Enjoy it as much as you can, bearing in mind that there is only one Canadian Pacific car in the consist - one of Alan and Phyll Wright’s Grove smooth-siders. Stuart and I are just two of the people patiently waiting for the arrivement of the Accucraft ‘fake’ CP cars - better than nothing at all, and which, unless you are the next best thing to a millionaire, are at least affordable.

Yeah, lots of people would like to see me fall either on my face or on my butt.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Me, I’m used to it.

Very nice, tac.

I love the Royal Hudson.

It’s a crying shame that both the RH and her sister, #2813, are hidden away in gloomy sheds somewhere, and not out on the rails where they need to be, spreading the word about how Canada was BUILT using the tracks.

In an effort to further my building of the one-off ex-D&H canteen hauled behind #2813 on her excursions, I wrote to the proprietors of the premises where the non-streamlined 2813/canteen are hidden away in Calgary Yards, with a request for one of them to get off his or her butt and take a few basic measurements for me in return only for $$$, but got nowhere. Right now I’m reduced to doing my scaling and measuring from photographs and stills from video, some of which is decidedly less than ideal. Last year I bought a Rivarossi H0 D&H Mallet off e*** to get as good dimensions as I could, and a good friend doned me a set of J&M Commonweatly six-wheel trucks. Not right, I know, but the Aster S2 tender trucks are around $600 a pair, and so…

It WILL happen, I’m sure, but it might mean me actually making the trip out there to do it.
