ESU Loksound XL V3.2 and V3.5 ....keep alive'?

I have a few of the newer Loksound XL V4.0 decoders which have ‘keep alive’ built in but I also have quite a few of the older V3.2 and V3.5 XL which do not.
Is there a way of rigging a keep alive’ module up and then attaching it to the V3.2/3.5 decoder?
Has anyone actually done this?

This would eradicate the sound drops and any motion problems due to any small track problems.

Please don’t tell me to fix my track

Quoting a post in a German forum

“According to ESU, the Loksound XL Ver3.5 can not be retrofitted with Goldcaps”

And according to another forum this also applied to Loksound XL Ver3.3 - no mention of 3.2

BTW the numerous people who wanted to add the Goldcaps were really ticked off at ESU, especially at the statement that Goldcaps were unnecessary.

The posts in the two fora were from 2006 and 2008.

Thanks HJ

I too had seen this but a similar response was made by ESU concerning the smaller scale Loksound (non-XL) decoder. But there are details online on how to equip this decoder with keep alive.

I suspect that there is a similar method to do this with the larger scale XL version…

I just hope that there is someone who has done this!

Mike,

I finally found one in this thread http://s1gf.de/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=10234

Posts 11 and 12 complete with “suggested values” for the components

Hi HJ

Great find! many thanks

Now I am going to try to decipher what they are saying, so as to rig up my own ‘keep alive’ module…or maybe buy one of the ready made ‘two wire’ solutions.

There’s no magic, just hook it up like the schematic in that thread. The diode will have a band on the end that corresponds with the perpendicular line on the schematic…

Mock it up and take a picture and post it here before connecting it to the decoder.
