A good source for speakers?

I have slowly been acquiring sound boards and would like to try my hand at installing a few but now I’m looking for a good source for speakers.

I have read here that some have used speakers made for computers. A quick check on Ebay shows that I can get several used ones for the price of 2 new ones at radio shack.

I know not all speakers will work but it seems any 8ohm 1 watt would be a good choice.

Recomendations ? Thanks.

Computer speakers can be a good source of free ones. I don’t know that I’d pay for them - seems someone is always throwing some old ones away. I’ve salvaged a bunch from throw-aways.

If you are going to buy new Pheonix is also a good source. They have many different sizes to fit most anything.

Great prices on many speakers…

Just remember to try and match the speaker power with the audio power.

1 watt speakers are ok for 1 watt decoders, but remember that the newer Phoenix has more than 1 watt out, and the Zimo MX695 is rated at 10 watts into a 4/8 ohm speaker and the MX645 is 3 watts. I would not use the ‘PC’ speakers here as they are usually .5 watts.

And of limited frequency range!

I’ve been pretty happy with this 2.5" Visaton

Me too, as installed in my USAT F3’s…

The FRS7 is now available in 2 versions, a W version is different in height. The taller W version does not fit in the diesel fuel tanks as it is too high. Specs are 1 3/8 vs 1 1/2 for the W, both are the same price. Other difference is the W is down to 160/20000 cycles, the other is 200/20000.

I must have the one that fits, ha ha!

I use 2 speakers in the USAT F units, and that helps give me more bass.
