Large Scale Central

sd 40-2 detailing

a snow day got m off to a a good start. I had an old C&O sd 40 that I wanted to convert to CSX.

the victim

painted the roof white

ditch lights and MU plugs are ‘miniautes by eric’ and the plows from winona garden railroad. it is bit expensive but well worth it.

any help would be greatly appreciated

JKS

JKS,

What kind of help are you looking for? Comments, ideas?

First fill in that hole in the roof where the blinker goes. most CSX locos don’t have them

Then if you are doing the silver CSX, paint the air grilles flat black with a little brown dust over top.

Go to raipictures.net for prototype photos and start checking details.

You are off to a great start !

Looking real good !

I like the AC unit on the cab roof.

Most of the units around here (Pittsburgh)now have aftermarket air.

can’t wait to see more

Bill

Looks better than this AC unit!

a little more work this weekend

i reworked the antenna mount. i realize that I will need to really weather this pone to cover my sloppy craftsmanship

added beacons. I ground downsome translucent lego peices. a little large but I think it will pass the 10ft test

this weekend I tested the airwire I am very happy the results

first video I hope it works

I did some work this weekend

I added some micro scale decals and scuffed up the paint with acrylics in preparation for a serious airbrush fade

the CSX blue is way too dark

She’s looking good!

many thanks

JKS, great looking build. I’m looking for a plow just like the one you have that you said you got from winona garden railroad. I see that they come with the handles on top which is great. Did you use the style 1 or the style 2 for this build?

The “victim” LOL!

Looks great.

What Airwire board did you use?

If you can’t buy it make it yourself.

faded the paint with GN sky blue after advice courtesy of Lance Mindheim

and then an airbrush fade
