Been busy replacing my swimming pool lately but finally got that done and now have a little time to get going on my rebuild here. I laminated 3 pieces of 0.80 plastic to make the body of the ditch lites . After the MEK set up I drilled a hole in the center of the plastic block and slid a plastic tube into the hole and glued it again with MEK. The inside diameter fits the 5mm led's nice and snug. After trimming the tube to my liking I added 4 simulated bolts using a dab of JB Weld and painted them and then clear coated them. Now i'll wire them up and move on to final assemby. Here's a few pictures .
I'll paint the back of the led after I finally mount them to the deck.
Yep , thats how I do it too , works great.
Hello again , I finally had enough time to finish my rebuild /repaint of my SD-45 . Now the engine has battery powered led headlites and ditch lites on the front and rear controlled by a center off switch hidden by the smoke unit . It is marked HL in the pictures. Also I put in battery powered ground lites on both sides as well as a couple of lites on the control stand inside the cab controlled by the switch AC in the pictures. The control stand lites are actually fiber optic cable and flash on and off red. Its a small detail that you'll only see at night . The fibers are the diameter of a hair but add a nice touch. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
nice detail Mike
Looks great!
Nice lighting!
Beautiful Loco....

Very nicely done. Looks very professional!

Thanks guys. Now that i've run ot of all my Polly Scale paint in these colors i'll have to come up with another paint sceme for my remaining loco projects. I still want to repaint a couple of dash-9's and a F-3 . I was thinking of using a dark green for the F-3 and spelling out the name in the side ( Chicago Joliet and Midland) and weathering it to look old and beat up. That would contrast with the F unit I have already painted in this livery . As far as the Dash-9's i'll have to come up with something else. Thats the fun part of doing your own road.
Mike, Micro Mark is coming out with a line of paints. maybe you could find something close in that line. Also, I had NAPA match a paint colour for a truck I once owned. So maybe you could get a quart custom mixed to match the green. A quart should supply you with enough to do all your equipment. ;)

SNOW!? Holy crap.
We are in monsoon season here. It's rained for 2 weeks....so that's pretty much our spring. Next week should change to hotashell/roadconstruction season for us. lol.
