      Bruce,

To me, that is exactly what John Allan had in mind.  You've got the runaround, trailing and leading point turnouts and limited track lengths.  If you establish switching limits by "Yard Limit" restrictions that's it.  Nice illustrations.

I guess I didn't get any good pictures of this part.

And, all I have is a distant shot of the quarry siding itself.

You can see the "loads" on the inner track, and barely see the two spurs next to it.

I ended up putting rocks on each of the "loads" so I would not get confused as to which was a load and which was an empty.

It was a nice challenge.   Luckily, the call to lunch ended the session, so I wasn't too embarrassed.

Here are some pics to supplement Bruce's

      Here's a pic very similar to Bruce's

Interesting end-of-track device that Bruce's pic doesn't show.

Thanks, Don.   Those are perfect!  I had completely forgotten about them.

      Ric,

The DVD has every pages of all of those issues from January 1934 until December 2009.

I'm not certain when they ran, or what they were called, but I did get a number of different pages when I searched on "switching" and "puzzles".

The DVD is a great resource as it provides a great amount of information for learning how to build from scratch, as well as great ideas for building and operations.

      Bruce,

What is the official title of that DVD?  Thanks in advance for this info.

      Ric,

It is:  Model Railroader magazine: 75-year collection on DVD-ROM

      Link here:  http://www.kalmbachstore.com/15120.html

As stated earlier, this is NOT cheap, but it is quite enjoyable.  I found the 1955 plans for the bucket coaling station I build, as well as other ideas for crafting various parts.   I use it for ideas.

It IS on a DVD, so I don't think you could install it to something like a Kindle, but then, I haven't tried that.   I did install it on two of my home computers.

I finally found it.  I sent a note to Kalmbach and was looking for the exact name.  I'm really enjoying the MRVideoPlus.com and asked if there could be a consideration of putting it and all issues online, since it only covers the first 75 years and is already out of date.  I think it would be a great subscription service to be able to access all online.
